TLP 214 The New Generation 5 Glock
Welcome back to the Talking Lead Show! This week we talk details about the new features of Glock’s new generation 5 G19 & G17 9mm handguns with Cory Jones Assistant National Sales Manager for Glock Inc.
Lefty has been bursting at the seems to talk about the new Gen 5 Glock since he took the Glock Professional Operators Course back at the beginning of August where he put at least 1000 rounds through the Gen 5s. The biggest takeaways from that course where noticeable improvements in grip, trigger-pull/reset and accuracy.
With more than 20 new features to the new Gen 5 Glocks, Cory walks us through the “Big 5” features first. Starting at the bottom first we have the flared magwell which gives better and faster reloads and the extended front floor plate for a more positive manual mag extraction. Second: Glock has done away with the finger grooves on the grip. This change gives the shooter a better purchase on the handle and does away with the sometime awkward finger positions the grooves can cause. The third major feature is the ambidextrous slide stop, the benefits being evident for lefties and for off-hand manipulations. The fourth feature is the new coating. Glock is using a nDLC coating instead of the usual gas nitride finish. The fifth major feature is the barrel. The Gen 5’s will come with the Glock marksman’s barrel. The barrel grooves were moved closer to the feed ramp so the bullet can catch the grooves sooner which makes for more accurate shots.
Some other significant features for the Glock Gen 5’s are the magazines. A safety-orange follower was added. This is a great feature for when you safety-check your Gen 5 to make sure it is empty you know right off the mag is empty when you see that orange follower. It is also useful when looking through the round count indicators on the back of the magazine to quickly see how many rounds you have remaining.
Another optional feature Glock will be offering with the new Gen 5’s is big orange Ameriglo tritium night sights.
Corey also gets into some backwards/forward compatibility questions with the Gen 4’s and Gen 5’s.
So tune it and don’t miss this awesome interview!
